Today is the first morning I have had time to sit down in front of my computer again. It has been a pretty busy few days.
Saturday night, we spent the night out at our cabin even though it isn't quite finished. There is something so calming and relaxing about being there.
Saturday afternoon, we took the kids on only the 2nd bike ride of the year! Crazy, I know! Last summer we went for a bike ride at least once a week. Staying with the in-laws though, we would have to drive somewhere to go for a bike ride or bike along the highway, which I am not comfortable doing with the kids in tow. It was another reason we picked the piece of land we did to buy vs. the one right next to where we are staying now. After the bike ride, we stopped at a small park and let the kids play for awhile before heading back to the cabin.
The kids went to bed around 8pm, which is actually late for them. Once, we put the kids down I started to read a new book. I had no reason not to read, or to feel guilty for doing it. I stayed up until 2am finishing the book. The kids were up at 7:30am and I was also. I felt great! You know how you feel when you are camping? You stay up late and rise with the sun but still feel well rested. That is how I felt Sunday morning. I felt more well rested Sunday than I have in a long time. I think it has to do with the fresh air and lack of technology.
I didn't have any laundry or dishes to do and couldn't have there even if I needed to. It felt like a mini vacation. I also couldn't mindlessly surf the internet like I sometimes tend to do.
This weekend made me even more excited for our cabin to be finished. I can't wait to be able to wake up there every morning. I know that then I will have to do dishes and laundry there but it is just so much more peaceful there.
The simplicity.
I plan on writing a post, or a few, on our cabin soon.
